US Counter Terrorism is simply insane.
US Counter Terrorism is simply insane.
Probably didn’t hear about it on the news, which is convenient. TPP is filled of all sorts of stuff. It can enable Phillip Morris to sue member nations over lost profits if they add regulations to their cigarette market. It works in reverse too. Foreign companies can sue the US Government, ie. the US tax payer.
The patent laws and IP laws have spun out of control in the US, and now we are doing our best to apply them globally. This TPP was designed behind close doors by corporate lawyers and not our elected policy makers. Our elected policy makers just blindly voted to not have a debate about the bill. That is what fast track means. So it will go to a simple up and down vote and no debate will be held. I’d be surprised if any of our lawmakers even read the bill, god knows what is in it. They public can’t even see it until it is passed. How insane is that?!
Says the police chief that did this…to a guys house. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/front-range/greenwood-village/owner-of-greenwood-village-house-blown-apart-by-swat-says-this-is-an-abomination-this-is-an-atrocity Armed shoplifter runs into house. Then this is what happens. The autoplay video explains it. I’m pretty sure they used an armored personnel carrier to drive over the neighbors fence.
EDIT: TPP and why it is bad. Countries basically give up sovereignty to “trade tribunals”
Korea has this disease in the headlines. People are running around scared, the government is being quiet about the finer details, while “netizens” run amok with rumors and falsehood that amplify the fear. A little different from the USA’s response to Ebola. In that case the government was very transparent about where the infected victims were, what was being done and why, while the media was the one trying to incite fear for ratings.
Korea is doing something similar now but the roles are reversed. The government is not saying where the victims are. Probably over fear of it harming a hospitals reputation and never getting patients again, Korean people are very reactionary about these things. You get a clown on TV that says “fan death” is real and suddenly the whole country builds automatic shut off timers into every single fan and refuse to leave fans on while sleeping. I’m off topic now, anyway, the government is being tight lipped, and I heard a story about hospitals trying to turn possible MERS cases away because they don’t want to deal with them because they are too dangerous, I assume. I don’t know if that is rumor but a Korean friend told me. Which goes back the original point, after the Sewol Ferry disaster nobody trusts anything the government says, news is distributed though facebook and instagram and likes and upvotes decide what truth and reality is. I’ve heard some things that can be proven false, being passed around like facts.
Bill Gates said a super virus is the one thing we should really be scared of. War and diseases have been historically been the biggest killers of humans. Large scale wars are not economically beneficial for anyone anymore, so we are left to focus on viruses. Korea has some of the most densely populated cities in the world. Some of the hardest working people, people that will go to work and school when they have severe fevers because that is what is expected of them, people that spit on the sidewalks, cough and sneeze without covering their mouths, people that hold hands and walk arm in arm with their friends, lax hygiene in general. It’s the perfect place for a virus to spread.
The netizens even set up a MERS map because they were unhappy with government reporting. I think it’s great they do this work, but the distrust of the government is at the point where if the government said the sky is blue people would call them liars.
I find it entertaining to watch the reaction as they close 700 schools in Seoul on Friday, and a planned closure on Monday. I don’t know what will happen Tuesday that will make this any different, but the government needs to act like they are doing something else people start shitting bricks. So I recieved a text this morning from the government telling me to wash my hands. Thanks guys. Overall I don’t fear MERS much, it has a pretty low fatality rate and even less so among healthy men in my age group.
Time to go prepare another 12 pounds of pork belly! I love this stuff.
TSA failed to stop 67 of 70 attempts to smuggle contraband though TSA checkpoints. You can draw a few conclusions from this. The obvious one, TSA is ineffective in stopping threats. Second, no one is trying to hijack planes; if 95% of the time bad stuff gets though security and 0 planes have been hijacked in the past 14 years. It’s a show, “Security Theater”, to make people feel safer, justify spending of tax money all while eroding civil liberties. The reinforced cockpit door is the only thing that has made air travel safer. It was both the cheapest and most effective and reliable way to stop threats. You want to make air travel even safer? Remove the pilot, let computers fly it the same way they do the drones we use to bomb people with.
Some solid investigative journalism turned up that proved what I’ve long suspected. The FBI creates these terrorists to justify their funding. They find mentally ill, young and naive or desperately poor people, offer them a truck load of money. Give them the detailed plans on how to carry out a specific illegal action, then provide them with the funding, tools, and expertise to do it. Including paying the taxi fare so the would be terrorist can make it to his destination. Then make a “Hollywood ending” take-down and arrest them. There is a good chance that if you heard of a FBI terrorist arrest in the past 14 years, it was done with this same method.
This case reminds me of the ATF screw up with Fast and Furious, where they let 2,000 guns be sold to cartel members. This shit needs to stop.
Law enforcement seems more dangerous to the general population than ever before. Number of people killed by police in 2015 is approaching 500 and it is only June. There are stories on the internet every month of police shooting people. Most recently I read about police being called to check in on grandparents (shot dead), help with a potential suicide (shot dead), and fleeing suspects shot dead in the back.
We’ve also go no-knock raids on innocent homeowners, where the SWAT team shows up at 2am (because they trusted the word of a crackhead), bust your door down and start shooting. If you have a dog they kill it for you. If you have a gun and try to defend yourself from the people that bust in your front door at 2am, they kill you.
Couple this with asset forfeiture, where simply possessing cash of any quantity is assumed to be drug money and you have to prove it isn’t. Once you do that Herculean task the police will give you 50% of your money back, oh, and legal fees are out pocket too. There is a lot wrong law enforcement in general in the US, from the local PD all te way up to the FBI.
The “Freedom Act” was passed recently too. Patriot Act 2.0, it added several protections for CIA/FBI and prevents Freedom of Information Act requests. Why the hell is everyone so afraid? These pieces of legislation don’t help you or keep you safe. They give 3 letter agencies massive overreach of power and remove checks and balances as well as transparency.
